There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the video of a New Rochelle High School AP Math class and their teacher lip synching to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Baby.” The district’s come under fire recently due to the sexual abuse allegations of a student by a school librarian, and the flames are being fueled by the constant pick, pick, picking of a district parent and blogger who seems to be less than pleased with how the New Rochelle school district is running.
All things considered, I think the blogger is looking for issues where none exist – this is merely a group of good kids and their teacher having some well deserved fun after a grueling year. Their intent was to emulate the Harvard Baseball team who performed the very same song, in the same fun manner, and then post it for all to enjoy and have fun with. Nothing more, nothing less. There are several similar parodies…one even stars our own Commander in Chief and President of the United States – Barack Obama. In my opinion, any seemingly inappropriate scenarios are the product of an overactive imagination of someone with an axe to grind.
Take a look for yourself and tell me, is this really worth all the angst? The blogger I refer to is named on this version:
Here’s the mash up version starring the President:
Here’s the video that started it all – you gotta love those Harvard boys!
In my opinion, the New Rochelle School District is doing a fine job. We have the most dedicated teachers and administrators, and some of the brightest and most talented students in the country. The alleged abuse by a bad apple (and a couple of older bad apples) does not define an entire district, it’s teachers, or it’s students. Lighten up and have some fun, ok?
GO NEW RO!
