Is it me, or did 2011 fly by? If you’re out celebrating on New Year’s Eve you may want to keep this bit of information from the News12 Westchester close by: Free rides for New Year’s Eve!

“People going to the White Plains New Year’s Eve Family Spectacular should look for the “New Year Safe Ride Stand” on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue. The cabs will be available from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to drive anyone 21 and older to any home in Westchester.

In parts of Rockland, the TJ McGowan Funeral Home in Garnerville is running a Safe Ride program. They’ll be offering rides in the North Rockland area. Rides are available from midnight to 4 a.m.

In Orange County, there’s a program called “Alert Cab” sponsored by Dana Distributors in Goshen. They’re working with local cab companies and more than 700 bars, restaurants and catering halls in Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties. They say just give your keys to the bartender who will call a cab when you’re ready to leave. The bartender will give your keys to the cab driver and you’ll get them when you get home. They require that your destination must be home and it has to be within 10 miles of wherever you’re picked up.”

It’s always better to have a designated driver before you head out but now there’s no reason to even think about driving after a night of celebrating. Please have a safe and Happy New Year and I’ll see you on the radio next year!
