CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that teaches people like you and me the skills needed to help emergency responders save lives and protect property in the event of a disaster. Imagine an emergency or disaster, natural or otherwise. What would happen if emergency responders couldn’t get to your neighborhood right away, or were spread extremely thin? That’s where CERT comes in.
CERT Teams serve as a vital link between emergency services and the community. Members are trained to extinguish small fires, conduct light search and rescue, set up treatment areas and apply basic medical techniques. CERT training also teaches members how to assist emergency responders, develop safe techniques for debris removal and victim extraction, and identify and anticipate hazards within their community.
CERT training is available to everyone living or working in the Town of Greenburgh. Training sessions are available throughout the year and are offered at no cost. For more information contact P.O. Peter Dandreano, 914.682.5334 or CERT Capt. Richard Edelson, 914.428.8337 – Tell them I said “Hi.” I signed up for the Winter session but it was close to the end, and I didn’t finish filling out the forms. Then I had to miss a class – I suffer from Brain Like a Sieve Syndrome – you know how it goes. Without a doubt; however, I will be on hand for the next round of training sessions.

One of the perks of knowing the CERT guys is getting helpful and informative emails from P.O. Peter Dandreano:
Burglary Information
On Tuesday February 26, 2008 at 11am the Greenburgh Police Dept. made an arrest for a burglary “in progress” in the Scarsdale section of Town. The suspect fled the scene and got into a limousine. The limousine was hired from a Manhattan hotel and the driver was not aware of the burglary.
On Thursday February 28, 2008 at approximately 3:30pm a residential burglary occurred in the Town of Mt Pleasant. A dark colored sedan was observed in the driveway of the home.
The possibility exists that limousine’s are being hired to transport burglary suspects into residential areas to commit burglaries.
Please notify the Greenburgh Police ASAP 682-5300 if you observe a suspicious limousine or black sedan in you neighborhood.
Please pass this on to your neighbors and Neighborhood Watch Members.
Thank you and stay safe!
