The Greenburgh Police Department has announced a partnership with the 911 Cell Phone Bank to collect used cell phones to provide emergency cell phones for victims of abuse and senior citizens.
The Greenburgh Police Department has teamed up with The 911 Cell Phone Bank to collect old cell phones in support of victims of abuse and senior citizens. Under the agreement, the Greenburgh Police Department in an on-going effort will collect used cell phones in the community which will be turned over to the 911 Cell Phone Bank and re-marketed. In return, they will build a bank of phones for emergency use as well as cash which will be used to fund various emergency and community service needs.
Residents who have unused cell phones are encouraged to drop them off at the Greenburgh Police Department Crime Prevention Unit, 188 Tarrytown Road, White Plains, NY 10607. For more information call Police Officer Peter Dandreano at 914-682-5334.
James Mosieur, Director of the 911 Cell Phone Bank, said law enforcement agencies around the country are signing up to participate in the 911 Cell Phone Bank Program. “We started the 911 Cell Phone Bank program in 2004, and it has already generated some 63 thousand phones, redirected over 200 tons of e-waste from landfills and provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency cell phones for various law enforcement needs. No need is greater than supporting law enforcement agencies who work so tirelessly on behalf of their local communities.”
Over 1500 law enforcement and community services organizations around the country have signed up to participate in the 911 Cell Phone Bank program. The 911 Cell Phone Bank donates over 2,000 phones a month to law enforcement and other agencies for use as 911 emergency phones.
